Hi Everyone,

I haven't been on this board in ages, but that tells you why I'm putting up our Commander For Sale. :( We just don't have the time to sail anymore, so instead of it just sitting on the hard, it is time for someone else to enjoy this great classic plastic as we did.  A lot of wonderful cruising memories aboard her.  Here is the ad that I just posted on craigslist.

Yow!  Where were you 18 months ago?!  Best of luck selling Fagel Attraction.  I read your "How not to sell a boat" article long before I bought Lucky Dawg.  Any bites?

SailorLiz

Yes, I have had two serious inquiries, one made an offer, but wants us to finance balance.  Times are sure tough. I'm sure by spring, she will have sold.

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is staying warm this winter!  It sure has been cold here in N. Michigan.  The boat is for sale.  Here is a new link to the the posting on craigslist.

OK WillBe - this is your chance. Though I am aware that the UP is about a zillion miles from you, I think it is safe to say that you won't find as nice and well outfitted a Commander at this price. Wow! Nice looking boat too! (from Liz's website on her profile)

Oop!  Liz, somehow I connected your name with the "How not to sell a boat article"  Not sure how those brain circuits work sometimes - I do believe I was in error!  http://www.sailjazz.com/editorial/read/63

Happy Spring!

Everyone ready to get their boats splashed?  If you don't have one, here is a wonderful one!

It is almost time to splash the boat in Northern Lake Huron.  Have you charted your course to the N. Channel for your summer cruise? ;)

Hi Everyone,

Well, I still haven't sold this boat. We really need to sell it. Has anyone had any experience on selling a boat on Ebay?   I'm considering putting it up there. Any ideas or comments good or bad to selling on Ebay? (I'm not an ebay user).

Here is the new listing on Craigs list....

We can also except PayPal, Visa/MC/Discover/American Express for payment.

Thanks,

Hi Liz

I haven't bought or sold a boat on ebay, but I have some thoughts.

I think your ad is very well written. If applicable, you might want to include "Boat is on the hard and available for inspection at (name of Town)" and "Winter storage paid through (date)."

The more pictures the better.

You get alot of exposure with ebay. But, the boat might not sell until after the auction closes. There just isn't enough time for the buyer to look at the boat.

If the boat does sell, it seems many of the deals fall through. We've seen quite a few boats that were sold, only to be relisted a short time later. I would ask for a sizable deposit within 24 hours.

You can set a reserve price. You can also do a "Buy it now or Best Offer" auction. You're not obligated to accept the offer. But, I think you need a certain amount of ebay feedback to do that type of auction.

As you know, it's a tough market now, and being the dead of Winter doesn't help.

Your extra sails don't add much to the value of the boat, but could bring a good bit of money if sold individually.

Best of luck

Please please please do not sell it on Ebay without a reserve.

Keep in mind for ebay to work someone has to WANT that boat, WHILE you are selling it.

Some A/C's have gone for next to nothing on Fleabay... since there was no reserve.  Some of those folks have posted questions here and elsewhere like
'what is the ballast worth as scrap?' and 'how many pounds of aluminum are in the mast?'

That should not happen to these fine little ship, especially those who have been loved.

I know there may well be financial realities involved, but I hope you are able to hold off long enough to find a good home for your deserving little ship.

As a long shot, you may try to contact  Northeast Sailboat Rescue. He seems to have an affinity for the Alberg hulls and may be willing to take a trip out your way for a nice boat like yours.

I appreciate all of your helpful comments. I did send an email to the Northeast Boat Rescue to see if he would be interested in coming to the Great Lakes.

Is there anyone with a trailer for a commander or ariel within maybe 500 miles that would be willing to help out in moving this boat? It was also suggested to me that I try to move it to an area that is more populated and possibly where it would sell better.

It is on the hard right now in Detour, MI (the far east part of the Upper peninsula of Mi).

I'm still relunctant to sell through ebay, but thought I would ask here if anyone has.
