You can make out that the bridge is still lowering as the ship hits it.

Looks like it's late afternoon, a half a bottle at lunch, assuming it's
not a half gallon of chianti, is going to be metabolized pretty quick.

What's that blogcomment there that says the bridge operator died?  
As he/she lowered the bridge?   Could have been a late lunch, perhaps?

I'd guess the bridge was locking  down for the night.  Maybe it was
5 o'clock, street traffic  backed up, and the operator was going home.
 
Oooops,  you guys were scheduled to go thru here over an hour ago!
