Volvo Penta MD-6A Marine Diesel:  Will it fit an Ariel???

Please offer any info on this subject.

Looking to repower my Ariel, Louise Michel.

Currently using an 8HP Yamaha 2 stroke....which I prefer to the Tohatsu 6 sail pro (Yamaha is quieter, more reliable carb.....ran great for West End to Fort Lauderdale non stop 30 hours)

The problem is pulling the outboard in and out of the well every time I use her....and I am on a mooring ball so it isn't as easy as pulling her out and onto a dock to rinse.

Anyhow....please pass along any info.

Thank you.

I hope this helps. I had to dig a bit to find it. I put a 2GM20F in mine and it is tight. The Atomic 4 was the original inboard choice.

So basically it will fit as long as it is not larger than a Yanmar 2GM20F?

I know Beta makes a model that fits the Atomic 4 mounting points.....but I have a good price for this volvo rebuild, keeping budget under $2.5K.

Thanks!

It is close. The Yanmar is taller than the Atomic 4 and judging by the drawing 1/4" shorter than the MD6A. I had to push the Yanmar pretty far forward on my Commander to get the required depth. The Commander has a longer cockpit so I had the room. I would cut profile templates out of cardboard and see if they fit before I invested in an engine.
