what is this boat?

Ran across it a couple nights ago while checking Craigs list (habit)

 It's listed as a pearson 24, but every pearson 24 I've been able to find dopesn't look the same, the lark has the flush deck, so that's ruled out, and the 'pearson 24' has a hull that's more similar to the Ariel. Neither have the half doghouse.

If you look at the cabin, it could be what's left after an Ariel owner tries to make a Commander sized cockpit...

Don't know, but it looks like it was designed by several different people who weren't on friendly terms.
 The cabin and coaming when viewed together look like an old pickup truck parked beside a fence.
 
 I do have to go to newaygo in a couple, I may email the guy and drop in just to see what it really looks like.

To take this thread in a more positive direction... I saw this boat at the harbor last weekend and after about an hour of paddling around the harbor this evening, I found it.   Some similar attributes to the Commander, however, it looked like it had a spade rudder and maybe a fin keel or maybe even a centerboard (I couldn't see).  Any idea what it is?

A much more positive direction. Not as pretty, or as gracefull looking as a commander, but not 'it's not mine, I'm just working on it' ugly. plenty of track!

Has what appears in the pics a nice rise to the toe rail as it goes forward.

But also what appears to be NO side access in the cockpit to the interior - like lockers.....?  A lotta less mahogany in the coamings!

Could it be a Tim Lackey inspired cruiser to daysailor conversion?



There's definitely an Alberg look to the day sailor.
Be great to see a Commander side by side with this lady to pick out the differences.  I'd agree that the Commander would stand out in comparison.
Probably because of Alberg''s no compromise design ethic.

Ran into the owners of the boat that I previously posted about.  It is a 1966 Chris Craft.  There were only 50 made.

They enjoyed checking out the Commander.

Upon further research, it is called the Capitan 26.

According to this, the Capri and the Capitan were the Chris Craft equivalents of the Commander/Ariel.

Having said that, the underbody in the brochures looks radically different than was seen in the picture.  This would suggest several unpleasant theories.
