Silly mast base question

The thinner part of the mast base faces bow or stern???

install the mast step with the thin part aft (the ariel and commander cabins taper to the bow .... this will make the mast step level fore-aft when installed)

told you it was a silly question - finally finishing the restoration of CupOTea and after all that work I put that thing on there and it just didn't look right.  Thanks, Bill.
