The wood grained veneer on Haabet, Ariel 133, is in good shape.  It is also dark and dated looking.  Can it be painted over?  What are your experiences with this?  Any advice on the type of paint that adheres best?

I have heard that removing the veneer is a messy job that probably should be avoided.  Truth is, if we can't paint the veneer, we'll leave it alone, but the cabin would look brighter and cleaner painted white.

I've had good luck scuff-sanding with 80 grit and a random-orbit sander, then painting with 1-part Interlux primer and paint.

That's what we did.  Sand with 80 grit, prime and then paint with most anything.  (Hardware store paint is fine.) Best if it's not glossy, however.  You will want  to camouflage the imperfections with a flat or semi gloss paint.
