Has anyone tried to fit one of the new 8HP. four-strokes
into the well of a Commander or Ariel. Practical Sailor
just did a comparison of these motors. I'd like to hear from
anyone who has installed the Nissan or Yamaha,F-8 or T-8.
Cheers, B.

I checked it out with a Tohatsu 8hp  4 stroke it won't fit in the well
You would probably have to get something like a 6hp or less.

I installed a Suzuki 6hp 4-stroke long-shaft in my Ariel.  It just barely fits and I had to temporarily removed the engine's tiller handle and reinstall it through the foreward access panel.  Now the wooden cover cannot be replaced because the tiller/throttle will not swing completely up or sideways back into the engine well.  At first this bothered me a bit, but as I've been cruising with my Ariel it has become one of the least of my worries.  The 6hp 4-stroke definitely provides adequate power for my fully loaded Ariel.
Hope this helps.
