Quote from: Lucky Dawg;16418I'd also suggest a new thread for members to post one or two representative pictures of their yacht. I think a single thread of glamor shots would be great to browse - a representative parade of ships.
That's kind of what I was getting at with the online registry like the NE Triton Association above. The advantage of having the designated "link" rather than thread, is that it won't disappear and get lost somewhere down in the archives when it becomes less active... Plus, members could keep updating their photos as they do upgrades or get better pics of their boats.

I'm happy to start the thread if that sounds appealing to others, but I'd wait till farther down the roll call to post Lucky Dawg. Rather, I'd invite our elder (in time served on this forum, that is) yachtsmen to post first. Takers?

Granted I don't have an A/C yet, but I think that is a great idea.  If nothing else, it would let me scroll the pictures across the screen for my wife in an attempt to get her to green light a purchase.;)

As for the "hunting" trip for hulls, I think the important info would be a picture and location.  Hull number and owner info would be a bonus since it would be harder to obtain.  As for the purpose of this exercise, I agree the ultimate goal would be to expand the association membership.  I know for me, it might also help track down a specific Ariel.  My grandparents were the original owners of hull 288 and actively sailed her for years in Long Island Sound.  I wonder what became of her?

A fine idea!

It would be great, wouldn't it, to click down a long row of Ariels and Commanders.  Unimpeded by lines of words!
NOW, how do we convince the boss?
It would mean a bunch of work dearchiving the boats the Forum has already collected over the years.  And an organizing concept.  What would be conceived as: a pictoral registry?  The private stuff, even the owners name, could kept as it is, a matter of membership.

In fact, I think there could be a fifth PERMANENT category dedicated specifically to portraits.  Meaning that it would be a feature that wouldn't disappear into the Archive mine. Maybe it could be set up on the yachtingworld.com format where you have the boat in portrait and maybe some shots of salient  features.

The portrait gallery would not be Forum, right? - except for an active tag-on thread for what you have going here, spotting unregistered, having a shot of the boat.

Mike's "Hello" package might be a simple inexpensive felt material reproduction of the Burgee?  What else to include - something personal from the sighter?  An invitation to contact the A/C protective association?
Could be rolled up in a plastic tube for tossing into the cockpit!  Still would be hit-or-miss wouldn't it....?  the owner of the boat might be a COF trying to leave the race race.  And every form of Registry:p

When I come aboard here, I go directly to Forum.
However, the front entrance of the "Pearson Ariel Association" badly needs an update or remodel.  BILL, Shouldn't we have  a couple photos, at least,
 on the "front cover".....?
