Technical / Play in Tiller
Last post by Commander152 - May 18, 2023, 06:29:57 PM
Quote from: Commander152;28418I have a lot of play in my tiller (not sure if it is the tiller or rudder post or what).

I read through this post and I am not sure what would apply to me. I've attached pictures of my tiller head. What should I try first? Just tighten every bolt and see if that helps? (ignore the moisture meter from the survey).

Any help would be much appreciated.
thanks, Mike

I want to update you all on what I found. The tiller play was because the previous owner had taken the broken base of the tiller and glued it back together (and added lots of screws) then put it back in the tiller head. Quite a mess. I didn't trust it, so I found a new tiller at https://store.ruddercraft.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=182_56&product_id=571. I was surprised that they had a commander tiller and was pleased with the product. It has served me well and I kept the old tiller as a backup.

Technical / Measurements for Pearson Comma...
Last post by Commander152 - May 18, 2023, 05:58:09 PM
Has anyone kept the measurements for the dividers between the cockpit lockers and the keel? Commander 147 (Here is the picture: http://www.pearsonariel.org/discussion/attachment.php?attachmentid=8921&stc=1&d=1371602193) made some great ones. I'd love to make them for my Commander (152 -- Friendship). I can, of course, measure, but it is awkward laying on your back and all. If anyone has the measurements I would really appreciate them. I figure I can make one out of peg board.

thanks, Mike

Technical / Where to buy new cushions for ...
Last post by Bill - February 04, 2023, 06:26:16 PM
Local sail lofts are one possibility.  As are auto upholstery shops.  Bottom line, however, is that ACYA cushions are a custom project.  To get a true fit, measurements need to be taken.  The loft (and maybe the upholstery shop)  will come to the boat and take the measurements. Check around . . .

Is the new rudder made of wood or composite?

I bought Ariel 100 over ten years ago and she's going strong.  I had a new rudder built by Spaulding and it's perfect.  The original had play at the seams and fluttered at speed.  The 14 horse Beta runs like a finely tuned sewing machine (if sewing machines were diesel).
