Also, a new insignia on the main and a couple crew pix.  We've sailed every sailable summer Monday since my daughter was 3.  Kids are now 21 and 17.  "The days are long but the years are short!"

A couple projects this summer - a new NOT-knee-knocking tiller from AnyTiller.com  https://anytiller.com/ and after 18 years being stock aluminium, a traditional red painting of the inside of my cowl vent.

Thanks again Kurt for getting this site back up and running!

Cheers and beers to you Kurt for getting this site back up and running.  As someone else said, you've preserved history.  Lots to be proud of!  Thank you so much!

(and that daysailer transformation is epic!)

Wow! Great blast from the past!  Nice to hear from you Rico.  You and Commander Pete dipped - never to be heard from again!

You probably know, but this site got screwed up by hackers and Bill had to shut down new members.  There is a facebook thread at "Pearson Commander Sailboat Owners"

Technical / coaming crack
April 13, 2024, 05:35:45 PM
I have a horizontal crack in my port coaming.  Looking for ideas to address. Hasn't fully separated, but cracked enough to wiggle. Afraid it won't survive the season unaddressed.

A dowel jig and long bit would allow drilling several top to bottom 1/4" holes and epoxying a mahogany dowel in the hole, but I'm thinking that a dowel won't do much for reinforcing the inflection point of the crack.

Maybe there are 1/4" bolts that are long enough.  McMaster-Carr has threaded 1/4" 316 SS rods, but not sure about how to terminate on the top of the coaming.  Maybe machine a flat-head screwdriver slot in the top of the rod?

Also thought about a 1" SS 1/8" flat bar - kind of like perpendicular Band-Aids. Maybe also some angle bracing on the outboard side.

I'm thinking the fix may be unconventional, so open to suggestions.

Photo is of the crack - the yellow line is the outboard deck level opposite the photo.

Hey Kurt,
There is a member of the facebook Commander group with similar experience to you who offered to be part of managing the site.  He also offered his CIS department as a possible solution-finder for the hack that screwed up new membership.

(I offered to Bill to help, but frankly don't have any skills in these areas!)

FB commander group:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/1037892126570091

LMK if I can provide any more info or gather Karis' contact info.

Dear Bill,
I'm so sorry to hear this news.  Your dad had mentioned this summer that he was receiving chemo.  Was hopeful he'd prevail.  Really sorry for your loss.
Kyle

(I sent you a PM re your question)

Hey Mike!
Hope you're well.  I miss interacting with folks on this site!
Michigan in August is unbeatable.  We have some sucky months, but August is so nice.
A ride on an Ensign out of Northport, NY was the impetus for becoming enamored with the Commander and owning Lucky Dawg!  Same beautiful Alberg lines.  Just a bit more space.  Such beautiful boats.

Hoisted the spinnaker for the first time in 17 years of ownership!  Spring Lake Yacht Club sailing team friends of my son Lucas (on the tiller) put it up there!  Cool.  Goosebumps :)  (Lucas has changed a bit since this post - http://www.pearsonariel.org/discussion/showthread.php?1604-Commander-65-quot-Lucky-Dawg-quot&p=17076#post17076 )

Also a couple pix of Lucky Dawg underway on Saturday.  Just me and the dogs - steady 12-14 with gusts to 23!

Been a while.  We're still sailing.  Crew is growing - kids growing up and added a dog.
