After several years of not completing the remodel I planned, primarily rewiring the electrics, I have to admit that I probably never will. Poor eyesight makes it frustrating for me to all of the little pieces.

Anyway, she sits on a 20 ft flat bed trailer with two #3500 axles, in a cradle waiting for someone with more skill and patience than I. She has all of the original winches, the sails have been kept inside and dry. A coat of paint would go along way. There is a British Seagull outboard that ran the day I motored over to the boat hoist.

Everything is properly titled though the boat registration has expired.
$3500 takes it all. If not interested in the trailer then it goes for $2500.

Located in Highland Village, TX.

General/Off-Topic / F.S.: Ariel in Mass--$23,900

When I got her, the aft cabin was considerably taller and real flimisy, the kids couldn't stand on it. There's a British Seagull in there and the top wouldn't close.  I took off the old one and came back with oak, as low a profile as possible. I'm still not happy with it but it's better.

thanks for asking

Technical / Outboard Discussions

Thanks for all of the information. When I asked for the distance from the transom to the water I meant from where the motor hooks on inside the outboard well.

Thanks again to all.

Technical / Outboard Discussions

Bill  , Theis

Thanks .

I started with this question because I have been using a  British Seagull with a long shaft, but have a 15 hp and a 9.9 hp outboards that I'm interested in using.

The outboard well on Thistle Dew has been modified at some point and I am wondering where the top of the transom was originally, and if cavitation is a problem or just an inconvenience with the short shafts.

Does any one know the average distance from the top of the transon to the water?

Technical / Outboard Driveshaft Length
June 30, 2003, 01:25:20 PM
Having searched through the previous threads concerning outboards, it seems that there are some with a long shaft and some using the standard  more common length shaft.  I'd like to know how many of us use a longshaft outboard and how many use a short shaft.  Were any modifications to the transom required for the short shaft. My Ariel came with a long shaft British Seagull. It seems to sit too deep and I get an abundance of exhaust in through the OB well.  Opinions please.

I have Ariel #104 from 1963
It has the cuts on the toe rail.
There are two lead pigs in the bilge, just sitting in there.
Water also stands on the stern, both sides and algae grows.
I have a scrub brush, lysol and a couple of extra beers.
