I replaced the original on A-24 with a stronger one and held on to the original.  If anyone needs one, let me know as I now have a different boat and have no need for it.

I uploaded that video a few years ago of A-24.  I think that it was taken on the way home from York Maine.  Good memories...

Quote from: mbd;20577I saw the Commander last Spring and there is/was(?) a gaping hole in the keel that would need repairing.

Maine...the best cruising ground on Earth!!!  I know what you're feeling inside when you take your kids to these magical places.  We're doing our kids right Mike.

Wow, she looks great! A fitting backdrop for such a great boat. How much cruising did you do that summer? Also, I'm curious to know what you ended up doing for a rudder repair.

Technical / Woes of a new boat

That is a great engine for your boat.  I bought a brand new Nissan 6HP which is the same engine as your new one and had no troubles the entire season.  Outboards have come a long way.

We saw this nice example on the edge of the inner harbor yesterday, but I couldn't see a name on the transom. We bumped into "Sea Smoke" up in Rockland Maine last month too. These things get around. Now if I could only find that elusive Ariel in Casco Bay...

Your boat looks great!  I really like the pressure cleats and winch located at the top of the coachroof.  It must make raising the main SO NICE.  I plan to add a similar setup to mine sometime in the next couple years.

I had a Nissan 6hp on my ariel and would simply open the lazzerette, turn the engine sideways, and then give it one pull straight out to start.  It was simple and it worked so the cord could be pulled at the preferrred angle without chafe.  Once it was running, I would turn it back to the correct orientation.

I'm starting a collection so we can purchase a community digital camera for this forum's members.  We will mail it to those we feel are not posting enough pictures.  Included will be a detailed description explaining how to use it and what constitutes a "good shot".  When we are satisfied with the amount of pictures taken and posted, you will be notified as to who to send the camera to next.  Who's with me? :D

It's the old "hit it with a hammer" trick.  I have tried that on most things I work on to no avail.  Glad to see it worked for you:)

BTW-Excalibur Launch date is confirmed for 6-14.  There was a 6-13 spot open, but being a sailor I was too superstitious to take it!  The plan is still to head north on the monday after the 4th of July with Casco bay in our sites the end of that week.  You should pm me your cell number so we can do some coordination.
