Thanks for the tip, MRH. I sent the seller an email.
If it has an alternator and vertical start option it will be perfect.

Excellent MRH. Thanks for the information. I'll have to look into Hawthorne's.

Having had the Nissan 6 hp on my Commander, I would recommend the long shaft. With the 20" short shaft you'll experience some caviation in a steep

I'm a bit confused. I'm about ready to replace the Yamaha 9.9 4-stroke that came with #242 with a new Mercury 6hp 4-stroke with the 20" shaft after reading all the great suggestions offered here.
I had thought that the 20" shaft was the long shaft and that the short shaft was 15". Do I actually need a 25" shaft for my Commander?

Hi All,

I am happy to announce that I am the proud new owner of Commander #242 Solstice

This is my first keel boat. I've been sailing for about 5 years on a 1966 O'day Javelin (hull #717) and had thought I would like to move up when Solstice came up for sale. I've been admiring her all year long as she was moored close to my boat in Provincetown, MA on Cape Cod. The Javelin owners has a strong online forum much like this one and that was a factor is my decision to buy her (mostly it was love at first sight though :-)

I will most likely have lots of questions but I promise to always search the
forum first before asking. I've been reading past posts and have learned a great deal already.

Thanks,

Marty Thomas
