Hey everyone.......Glad to see familiar names.....and new ones.... on the site.

1.  Noticed a slow drip, drip, drip from the bottom of the keel (stern area)during my last haulout.  Has something to do with a void in the keel from what I remember ...Any advise...I splashed without dealing with it ...About 10 years ago, Tom had grinded the area down and water spilled out, and refiberglassed.  What causes this, and is it something I need to deal with?

2. In the cabin there is a crack?, separation ? ..don't know how deep,  where the left side of the port bulkhead (going into the V-berth) meets the cabin molding (hull area)....Has been there for years, but someone asked me about it and expressed concerns that I never had before.  Thoughts?

The fiberglass job came out great,  very pleased with the results.  It's nice to step on a firm surface for a change, I know all the cleats are set in a firm surface, rather than mush.  That was my biggest concern.

Wayward star and I are still in the Virgin Islands... Haven't  ventured south yet.......
I've been sidetracked, I've taken to the skies, started flying lessons and what a blast...  
Wayward Star has been neglected some, but we still do a few sails here and there.

Wayward Star  is hauled out for the month of May.  I'm replacing the port coaming , recoring the foredeck .
Just making her strong for this upcoming hurricane season.
Here's Wayward Star on the hard. That's my son standing next to the boat.
A man walked by yesterday and said,"Who's Ariel is that?"  He has one in Huntington NY and says no matter where he goes, he sees an Ariel! He saw one in the Bahamas also.

Tom purchased #91 already named Wayward Star.  He was a very superstitious kind of guy and thought it bad luck to change the name.  So Wayward Star she was, is, and shall be named.
God knows she shines and the life we led living on her and sailing her off the beaten path all those years,  Wayward is quite fitting also.

Tom was 6'1" and lived aboard Wayward Star for 15 years.
He too bumped his head and smiled all the while,  well....MOST of the time anyways.
We used to joke about the roadmap of scars on his head.  He toyed with the idea of wearing a helmit.    

The funniest episode I can remember was when Tom was frying something on the stove and hot oil splattered onto him causing him to jump up, hit his head so hard he fell back onto the cushion and sat onto the  plate of potatoes, which caused him to jump back up, and  hit his head again, stepped back and into the cat food, knocking over the cats water in the process.  
Well, a good laugh was had by all...

What's the history of your Ariel, Geoff?  Do we have the story of how she wound up there?

Thanks for the photos and info.  Appreciate your opinions as usual.

I want to place grab rails on the underside also,  not much to grab on to belowwhen the sail is rough.  Been wanting to do that for a long time.

Bill, why is getting the sail DOWN another matter?  Is it more involved than my original setup?

Would like to check out Ed's system before I start this project.  Which I hope will begin in Feb.  A major haulout for Wayward Star. I'm  actually looking forward to it....

Thanks for replying.  Do you use yours for the jib or main halyard?

I want to raise and lower my jib from the cockpit and have decided to keep my hanked on sails rather than a furlilng system. My question to you all:
Do you think the cabin top is strong enough to place the hardware to do this.  for example the winch (Just to the side of the companionway hatch?) Anyone else do this ?

7 years ago, Tom reiforced our deck-hull joint from the outside, sanded the joint down, filled in the gaps with , faired it out, and replaced the stainless steal rubrail (with a sealant for both rail and screws. It needed no fiberglass reinforcement.  We never had a problem with leaks from this area.

I had ALWAYS wanted to get rid of the stainless steal rubrail and the hundreds of screws, to me they were hundreds of ways water could get in, but Tom insisted on keeping that rail so it remains to this day on Wayward Star. I have no intentions of altering that,  though I will inspect the area this haulout and see what he used as a filer and how its holding up. He had checked it two years ago, and it was fine.
