Technical / rudder discussions

Hi, I think for a feathering prop to fit that would be quite a large "bit" of opening up on the rudder. If you should decide to go this route, I have a feathering prop that I could offer you for a large savings, it's off a 30 ft Catalina. (A4 engine)

Happy Fourth Mike, Looks like a well thought out package..... right down to the protection of neighboring boats (LOL) Maybe after some trials you can figure out how many ounces of gas needs to be in the generator tank to run it dry and kill the engine. Enjoy the Summer. Carl

It would appear the rudder shoe has disappeared, what's the plan for replacement?

Well you don't need a travel lift, a: come-a-long , couple pieces of pipe as a roller and a floor jack is all I use to do this, and I move several of these boats thgis way Ariels Electras etc. Sounds daunting but it is pretty simple.

Or you could build a simple cradle and rent a  flat bed trailer  and move it with some help from a friend. It's documented on one of the threads here.

Ebb, excellent points, It appears what is not obvious to the bean counters and engineers is very obvious to anyone who has messed about boats in the backyard of their home or marina.  Rust stains?? prove culpability to me.

Comm.227, that front pump should be for the freshwater cooling system. I think the pulleys are a little on the large size, but it should cool nicely.
Your Commander since nicely on her lines for an inboard model...... very nice indeed!!!

No ebb, this is four dead in Atlantic after going missing returning from Antiqua to Britain after sail week. Four Brits,Two in their 20s, two in their 50s. Just found the yacht 5/23, missing since 5/14.
Got it from the BBC website.

This is a sad ending to 4 lives, not much holding a keel to this 40 footer. Evidently capsized before they could free the liferaft.

Technical / Questions regarding atomic engines
March 23, 2014, 10:55:59 PM
Well , you have the parts for a freshwater cooled engine. When you think freshwater cooled ,think recycled coolant cooled by a heat exchanger ( radiator ). You cool the exchanger with raw water which  then passes into the exhaust manifold and then out the exhaust pipe.  Your first picture shows the expansion tank, your second picture shows the added water pump for the recycled coolant. On the back of the accessory drive you would have another water pump which brings the raw water on board. Somewhere on your boat should be the heat exchanger, which should have four water lines, two intake and two exhaust, this is generally a round cylinder type tube. Hope this helps you identify the parts.

If your out and about in Bermuda , there is another Commander there, I believe it's #93 UNHOLEY co-owned by a nice Canadian gent named Andrew. He's done some reconstructing of his boat and may offer some help to you. if you  should meet up with him, I had his address somewhere.
I thought MI was a nice spot to work on an old boat.... long rebuilding season!!
