In perfect condition. My waivers have been approved, and I'm officially active duty Army now. Located in Key West, ready to go anywhere.

pictures at //www.svjourney.org (on the right)
and //www.svjourney.org/gallery2

I ship out on Jan 16th. Steal her, but give her a good home. I refuse to park her at my sister's dock for 4 years.

Make an offer? call me at 305-896-0979 asap for info. I have very limited internet access, so I can't do a full up ad her.

She's ready to go, and my "behind" belongs to Uncle Sam, so you'll get a deal.

Sailing and Events / Ariel # 50 Across FL
September 14, 2006, 04:30:13 PM
There are a LOT of pictures at http://www.svjourney.org/gallery2 (Under "The Journey Home")

They're not captioned yet, but they will be after I get home!

I'm back in Indiantown Marina (over 300 trouble-free miles under the keel), headed home to Key West via the east coast.

I chickened out going home via Marco Island... It would have been too much time on the tiller (I'm singlehanding) and too exposed to unpredictable afternoon storms that are common here in South Florida.

More to come. I've been keeping up a log, complete with pictures, but it's going to take a little time to make presentable.

All is GREAT!!!!   :D

Sailing and Events / Ariel # 50 Across FL

For those of you aware of my journey home from Indiantown, FL to Key West, the first "Phase" is over. I've made it across FL to the west coast (using the Okeechobee Waterway), then I came up to Placida (north end of Gasparilla Island) where I took friends sailing for a few days.

The boat has been a pleasure! I have a largish trip report that I'm preparing, but I just wanted to drop a quick note from the marina here (I've been staying on the hook, but decided to treat myself to a night dockside where I can do some laundry and take a nice hot shower!)

I'm headed south tomorrow, eventually to Cape Sable, then over to the Keys.

Welcome Jim :)

I can't help you with your question, as I am newly an Ariel owner. I'm also trying to figure out when mine was built. I was certain that hull #50 would have been the first year of production (1962?) but on my registration, it says 1963...

Any responses (that are more informative than mine) should be interesting :)

Technical / wood spinnaker pole
August 21, 2006, 06:43:46 PM
I'm Adam, I bought Frank's #50 :D

I'm not going to part with the pole, sorry. I'm actually looking forward to learning to use the spinnaker. I've only sailed with one once, in almost 30 years of sailing!

Also, any advice on using the spinnaker (or useful links) would be appreciated :)

(T-11 days and counting for the trip bringing #50 to her new home!)

Frank, you're making me feel bad! I did stop by the city marina and look at their "facilities" for liveaboards... So I'll be on the hook through the winter, coming in to the dinghy dock on Schooner Wharf... Does that count? (all work and no play means #50 comes home that much sooner :) )

This isn't specific to Ariels or Commanders, but if you'll look on the beach, you'll see what was reported to me to be the cause of this incident. I like the convenience of the danforth-types, but I sleep more easily with a bruce.

I'll definitely look you up Kurt... :) yeah, you weren't very subtle about the Ariels, but it wasn't until I saw "Revival" that I could picture myself in one

Yeah, you get some partial credit :)

Thanks Bill ... I did the same thing about 10 days ago... 3 days of juggling/brainstorming to get a plan together before anyone else snatched her up. :)

If you're in Key West anytime before next Easter, give me a shout, we'll go for a sail!

Adam

ps- and thanks EVERYBODY for the well-wishes

I guess I should introduce myself to you guys. I'm Adam, and I bought #50 from Frank. He gave me a great deal, and I feel like I robbed the guy!  :(  Right now she's up at Indiantown Marina (a little ways west of Stuart, FL). And there she'll remain until at least late July or early August, when I'll be able to take a week or two off of work to bring her home.

Then, she comes home to Key West, where I'll be living aboard her through the winter, with hopefully frequent trips up the Keys and at least one out to the Dry Tortugas.  Come spring, with the kitty stocked, I'll be heading up the East Coast, at least as far as Cape Cod, in quest of a partner in exploration (I'm pretty sure I've found her, let's see how she likes a 26' boat).  :)

We'll be having as many adventures as we can, I believe the first one will be having my friends 8 yr. old twin daughters come down to Key West for a week (from Maine) to introduce them to living aboard, while they complete their refit of their 55' Bruce Roberts cutter... in preparation for a through-the canal move to Los Angeles.

I'm glad I've been steered to this site, looks like a great place for information and inspiration (not that Frank has left any projects waiting!)

Oh, the places we'll go!
