I'm moving and have to sell "Sonrisa" after four great seasons of sailing her on Raritan Bay.

Here's the ad I put in my Raritan Yacht Club newsletter and on Craig's List.

Pearson "Ariel" -- Classic 26' sloop

Traditional Carl Alberg design - easy, safe and able. Set up for single-handing but sleeps four, standing headroom, good for daysailing, cruising or racing (PHRF 255). Ship-shape, ready to sail, just add 9 hp outboard.

Hand-laid fiberglass hull, large 9' cockpit, roller furling Genoa, lazyjacks, mainsail w/reef points, full teak deck, custom tiller, depth sounder, lighted compass, sink, icebox, Porta Potti, new marine battery, anchor, fenders, cushions, lines, etc. Jack stands & 250# mooring tackle included.

Moving, have to sell soon. Can be seen at Brown's Boat Yard, Sayreville, NJ. Call Guy at 732-407-9244 or email at guybaehr@gmail.com.  Asking $3,800.

I'd really like her to have a good home so I'll give anyone on this list an $800 discount.

Commander #134 is still on a trailer in my backyard awaiting sale. (I bought an Ariel.) It has a good mainsail and an excellent jib. Mast, boom rigging, halyards, anchor, fenders, etc. all included. The marine head meets the law with a holding tank installed. Structurally sound. Located Perth Amboy, NJ, near NYC. Trailer (7,000 lb. capacity) is 2 years old with electric brakes. I will sell the boat with or without the trailer. I'm asking $3,500 for the boat and $1,000 for the trailer. See the attached photos.

Brian,

As someone suggested, if you are open to a Commander, I have one on a trailer that's for sale in New Jersey. (See earlier post in this forum.)

It's in sailing condition, minus a motor and a battery. Price is $3,800. Trailer is two years old and I'm asking an extra $1,000 for it. Let me know if you'd like more details & pix.

P.S.  I see the Ariel on eBay did not get any bids and is being relisted.

Thanks Dan,

I'm very much looking forward to sailing this summer. I have the champagne ready, but I'm still trying to find the right new name for her.

Meanwhile, my Commander's still available. I've had inquiries, but mostly from out of state so far.

Cheers,

Guy

General/Off-Topic / Bidding advice

I don't know the owner of the boat, but I did notice it on eBay. I suspect that the list of work to be done will scare off a lot of bidders, as will the "as is, where is," terms of sale, so there's a good chance you can get it for a very good price.

At the same time, the remaining work doesn't seem to be very expensive in terms of money and the equipment is valuable -- two motors and an inflatable.

So I'd be sure to enter a bid that at the top end of what you'd be willing to pay. With a little luck you'll get if for less than your maximum, but I think you'd regret not getting it more than you'd regret paying a few hundred more than you were hoping to get it for.

Good luck!

I'm looking forward to the comradarie (virtual and otherwise) of other Ariel and Commander owners. I'm sure it will add to the enjoyment in many ways.

Having just bought Dan Maliszewski's Ariel, I need to sell my Commander. (Dan recommended that I join the association so I'm in the process of doing that.)

The Commander is structurally sound, has good sails and a marine toilet with holding tank to make it legal. It needs some cosmetics and has no motor, but I know of a good one that's available.

For photos and more information check my listing at: http://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/3938

The boat is on a trailer in my backyard. Asking $3,800 for her. If you'd like the trailer too, add $1,000. (Trailer has dual axles and is just two years old.)

Give me a call or shoot me an email.
