General/Off-Topic / "Teddy"
May 17, 2009, 07:06:31 AM
Thanks for noticing.  "Teddy" is hull #42.  I bought her in 2005 from a guy who had it in his family for 30 years.  Teddy was his grandmother's nickname so I just stayed with it.  I've had many hours of pleasure sailing her, but she's not going in the water this year, so I thought maybe someone else would like to take over.

Originally was listed for $7000, but I dropped it to $6000 last week.

Moxie Marine actually has 2 locations.  The store and shop are in Montague, but the marina is on the other side of the White River, in Whitehall.

Any questions?  gravey1111@verizon.net   But I'm only able to check my e-mail on weekends.

Theis,
If you have a #2 winch handle for sale, I would be very interested in making a deal with with you.

I lost my #2 winch handle last week. I believe the winches and handles are original equipment--not chrome plated, but plain bronze.  The handle had an ivory-colored plastic grip.  Any recent news on possible replacements would be appreciated.

Gallery / Just for comparison - Ariel / Commander
December 25, 2005, 11:39:13 AM
Probably none of my buisiness, but I was just wondering if you had a particular Commander in mind, and why you would wait until fall of '06 to buy it.  I keep my Ariel on White Lake, just a few miles north of you.  Hope to see you out there.

John, I'm smiling because I probably would 've also entertained the idea of sailing through the "open water"; and, of course, my wife would have objected vehemently.  However, the Marine on guard probably wasn't cradling a made- in- Russia,  AK47.  Most likely an M16 or possibly something more deadly.   ;)

Just wondered ebb, is that short bowsprit going to be for anchor storage, or is 338 going to become a cutter? ;)

Technical / Up the mast
July 10, 2005, 06:36:11 AM
Not sure about the above terminology, but I'm guessing the boom topping lift is what ended up at the mast head.  I agree that the person going up in the boatswain's chair should be of less mass than the one on deck, who should also know exactly what he's doing on the winch--especially on the way down!

Quote from: Mike GoodwinEric has been in touch with Azek and did mucho testing before begining this project. I was sworn to not to divulge the secret of this construction technique ,but it has Azek's blessing I was told .
If we are not to know of this technique, then why tell us that it exsists?

Hi Bill,

I also have not received a newsletter.  However, I have received the updated owners manual, which has been very helpful.

Technical / HELP...need measurements
October 26, 2004, 02:48:46 PM
Frank,

I came up with following measurements, but you might want to verify them.
1- 23 1/4" from the bottom edge of the horizontal boom to the center of
        the open hatch.
2- 12'4" from the aft side of the mast to the aft edge of the boom.
3- 13'8" from the aft side of the mast to the backstay.
Hope that helps.

I'm no expert, but I have #42, and was told that it was built in 1963???
I'm planning on going down to the boat in the morning and will get the measurements for you for your dodger.
I have "play" in my tiller also, and am not sure what to do about it.
Will let you know,

Technical / Boom vangs
September 11, 2004, 06:30:28 AM
just bought Ariel #42 a couple weeks ago, I sailed her for the first time last Sat. and was very pleased.  But after going through the Gallery, I noticed that some boats had a boom vang (which I've had experience with on day-sailers).  Mine dosen't have one, and I'm not considering doing any serious racing, but would the benefits of having one warrant the installation for casual cruising?
