My chainplates are leaking badly. Everyone at my marina loves 3M 4200 to seal under the chainplates and get rid of leaks.

Does anyone at the forum have positive or negative experience using this 3M product?

I have a lot of play in my tiller (not sure if it is the tiller or rudder post or what).

I read through this post and I am not sure what would apply to me. I've attached pictures of my tiller head. What should I try first? Just tighten every bolt and see if that helps? (ignore the moisture meter from the survey).

Any help would be much appreciated.

I want to update you all on what I found. The tiller play was because the previous owner had taken the broken base of the tiller and glued it back together (and added lots of screws) then put it back in the tiller head. Quite a mess. I didn't trust it, so I found a new tiller at https://store.ruddercraft.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=182_56&product_id=571. I was surprised that they had a commander tiller and was pleased with the product. It has served me well and I kept the old tiller as a backup.

Has anyone kept the measurements for the dividers between the cockpit lockers and the keel? Commander 147 (Here is the picture: http://www.pearsonariel.org/discussion/attachment.php?attachmentid=8921&stc=1&d=1371602193) made some great ones. I'd love to make them for my Commander (152 -- Friendship). I can, of course, measure, but it is awkward laying on your back and all. If anyone has the measurements I would really appreciate them. I figure I can make one out of peg board.

Forward one is held in with wing nuts and the back one where I should not need to access is just screwed in.

Does anyone know a good place to buy new cushions for a Commander?

I assume your S-shaped tiller is different from the one in the commander manual. Is this assumption correct?

My Pearson Commander tiller has some fixable cracks in it. I plan to buy a new tiller, and then, fix the old one and use it as a backup.

For the new tiller I have two questions:

1. Do forum members recommend any new tiller companies? In my web search I found Rudder Craft in Idaho (they have a Commander Tiller that looks similar to my current Tiller) and Anytiller in Georgia (they will make you a custom tiller). Are these good companies or does anyone have a different post-H&L favorite?

2. I see the drawing on page 83 of this association's manual. It sounds like people like the shape and it looks better than my current tiller, so I am thinking about going with the drawing. Have others had good experience using the drawing?

BTW, This forum is hugely helpful and so is the manual. I thank you all for managing the forum and keeping it active. I hauled out my boat and had all the bottom work done as specified in the manual. Thanks!

In my question I was trying to ask about the existence of "Bilge access 4" in the attached diagram that I thought you posted. What you described in your note is the same kind of Bilge access I have: One hatch in front of the compression post and two aft of the post. But in the diagram there is a 4th access which I can't find on my boat and it sounds like you don't have either. So why is it in the diagram?

My farthest aft bilge access is only about 10 inches deep. It sounds like with yours you can see deeper into the keel. I wonder if someone just sealed mine. I often get water in it...I think it is leaking form above...so I'm reading about bilge pumps and searching for leaks.

I appreciate you comments on the battery. Mine are under the cockpit floor and I like your placement better.

I have a Commander and can easily find the Bidge access 1, 2, and 3. I don't see an access hatch for #4. I have the model without the inboard...have an outboard in the well.

The batteries for my electrical system seem to be where access 4 is. I moved the batteries and don't see an access hatch. Do some Commanders not have that access point?

I still have near-mint set of cushions: hunter green w/ white piping, and a set of older but very useable hank-on headsails if anyone is interested.

Would the cushions fit a Commander?
