Ariel 417 has been sold and is now down in TN.   Thanks for all of your help over the past 4 years with this boat.  This is the boat that I learned to sail on and it was the perfect choice.  The boat will be missed.  caferacer - Baltimore MD.

General/Off-Topic / Ariel 417 is for sale

So as my first boat, she has been great and as a first boat to learn to sail on I do not think I could have made a better choice, but I have been racing her for 2 years now and that where my interest lay for the near future.  As such, I am looking at more dedicated PHRF racers such as J-24's, Evelyn 25's, and a few others to get more competitive.  So wavelength is for sale.  Just search ariel 417 and you'll get a history on her for the last few years.  She's in good shape, a little soft near the bow and could use paint.  Those are the negatives, the positives are she is well equipped with nice crisp main, 2 good jibs, depth sounder, VHF, swim ladder, all lights work as they should, very clean wiring through out, nice stereo, Stack Pack, Sunbrella Jib Bag which makes dousing and protecting the sail easy.  Danforth, with rode and chain, interior cushions and a well maintained tohatsu 6 sail pro.   4300 u.s.

I have a question, any background on the boat Jubilee?  The skipper Don Morrison seemed to have a lot of success with this event,  He must of been a good racer with a well sorted boat, lot of wins over multiple decades (65 into the 90's).

Well, wavelength just finish series one of Rock Creek Racing's summer series and we placed second in the 9 boats in our non spin class.  My crew is constant and we do every race, feeling pretty good about it even though a big part of the early series was getting in every race (some boats didn't).  There were some exciting races including one with 20+ knots of unexpected wind, in that race one boat lost is forestay, another had a prior keel repair that failed and took on a lot of water (made it to the lift on time) and one who blew out a pretty nice kite, the little Ariel powered through that race pretty well with no reef and still not feeling over powered.

Skipper Jer, how was your groups participation in the early season races, we see you guys across the way doing your thing, too bad the joint races didn't seem to work out last year.

Sailing and Events / Looking for a bow pulpit
May 12, 2017, 07:57:48 AM
Although I may be able to re-bend my Bow Pulpit, I am checking in here if anybody knows of one in the Mid Atlantic DC-Balt-Philly.

There are three at Captain Rons in Portland , but too far and shipping is prohibitive.

Is anybody out there racing..... I am in year two and we are doing much better with our tactics and my crew is getting better we have pulled out 2 second place finishes out of 3 races.  Natty Boht, are you doing North point this year?

Yesterday on the bay was great with a steady 15 knots with gust to 20, calming just a bit right at  the last leg.

Racing has really taught be to be a better sailor, I recommend it to anybody considering it.

Hey Ebb, I have been meaning to ask you, do you have an Ariel, you are a huge and helpful contributor here but I never see any on the water exploits?

Hell of a sail on the Chesapeake Bay yesterday, steady west wind at 12-15 all day long, 72 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.  This morning snow.  Take'em when you get em...... I had the entire bay to myself as far as I could see.  The tohatsu fired up on 2 pulls after sitting around for 4 months.

Ariel 417 has a new mahogany rudder and Bronze shaft, back in the water tomorrow and racing wednesday.  My insurance company was fantastic, the rudder is as original, thanks Mr. Phelon for supplying the new bearing.  here's to 50 more years for the ol' girl .  Cheers.
