Title: Commander 89
Post by: Madman on July 20, 2018, 10:30:50 AM
I’m the new owner of Commander 89, Bodacious Liberty.

Totally an impulse purchase. I like classic-looking daysailers and was looking at Ensigns, Electras, and Commanders.

The boat was in Marina del Rey and a friend and I sailed it up to Channel Islands Harbor last Sunday. Our marina has a pool. That’ll keep the kids busy while I’m working on the boat!

I am amazed at the skill and craftsmanship I’ve seen as I’ve browsed the forum!

Is that the logo for Nicro Fico on my furler?

Any idea what the hooks on the bulkhead were for? I suspect they aren't original.

I was trying to get an idea of what was going on up the mast rigging-wise.

Good luck. Looks like you have lots of projects ahead. They will all be worth it. The Commander is a great boat.

What tool do I use to cut the top layer of deck off so I can replace rotted core?

How do I make the cut so I don’t cut the core below, but just the fiberglass skin?

I use a Dremel saw with the blade sit to 1/4" deep. Be careful not to cut too close to the toe rail. The outer skin and inner skin join there.  I've attached a photo so you can see what I mean. Here is a link to a dropbox with a bunch of pictures of my deck recore project.

Title: New hardware
Post by: Madman on March 19, 2019, 11:18:24 PM
I modernized some of my hardware. A single Spinlock XAS and Lewmar 7 on each side. The Spinlock were from my local marine consignment store and the Lewmars were from eBay. The original halyard setup on the Commander had terrible angles.
