Title: Aft hatch vents
Post by: jshisha on January 27, 2008, 11:08:52 PM
I am restoring Commander 131.  Which has an outboard.  The aft hatch has 2 vents and is in bad shape.  I purchased an aft hatch on ebay.  It is in great shape but does not have any vents in it.  Is it necassary for me to cut holes in the hatch and install vents if I am using an outboard in the aft well

If vents are necassary any suggestions on how to install them.

Thanks

Jake

I believe it is a Coast Guard requirement that the hatch be vented. Your engine would appreciate the extra air too.

A hole saw would be the weapon of choice. The hatch is cored so you might want to dab some epoxy around the hole.

My hatch has vents similar to these over the holes. I believe that same seller is selling similar vent covers too. (Oops, sorry. Only looks like one, but they shouldn't be too hard to find.)
