Title: humbled opinion: the Owl
Post by: ebb on April 03, 2006, 11:32:52 AM
Between 1963 and the early seventy's ChoyLee built an elegant cruiser known as the Reliant 40.

A Rhodes Reliant called OWL has been rebuilt nearly from scratch by a group of students and professionals resulting in a revealing virtual tour of photos at
//www.rhodesowl.com

The boat is certainly a beauty - but what strikes me are the  photos taken down below befor the furniture began showing up - the Reliant is like an expanded spacious version of the Ariel: knees, shelves, stringers and green plastic.  The method of construction seems very similar.  The Reliant is slathered with teak outside,  you might not know it to be a fiberglass boat,  and below you get to see  fine and pricey furniture time lapsed in.  The methods used by the restorers of the Owl are very apropos our A/C's and, what else, extremely well done.  It's a pleasure!   There might even be a few tips for the schleppers...er, skippers over here. :cool:
