Title: Another new boat owner and association member
Post by: Jeff on June 22, 2005, 07:52:54 PM
Hey everyone,
I just sealed the deal on Commander 293 "Surprise". She's in good shape and only needs a little cosmetic work,a holding tank (read the threads and still deciding on course of action), and a new tiller among other things. She is also my first boat and I am downright pleased. I also joined the association and look foward to getting the manual and delving into the archives even further.
Here are some pics:

Hot damn! A tricked-out racing machine with lots of strings to pull.

Very nice

Fair winds to the new Master and Commander of "Surprise"

You got me!
I did indeed name my boat after Jack Aubrey's Surprise. I have been a huge fan of Patrick O'Brien for many years (well before the movie). I thought the idea of the Surprise (a smaller vessel, somewhat aged, but with good sailing ability) was just right for the Pearson Commander.

I meant O'Brian (had some brew at the local Publik House)

I did like that part of the movie when Capt. Jack defends his "old" ship. He says something like this:

"She's a fine ship. Her lines are lovely; she's stiff, weatherly and fast, very fast when handled properly. No, she's not old, she's in her prime."

Now, I won't claim the boat is very fast, but she can carry alot of canvas while others scurry for port. She may surprise you.

Enjoy
